Arts company Emerald Ant and Weston Museum, are pleased to present the Iguanodon Restaurant, a wonderfully quirky piece of free street theatre coming to Ellenborough Park West in Weston-super-Mare on Thursday 28th August. A furious romp through 50 years of ground-breaking scientific discoveries that changed how we see the world, ‘Iggy’ the Iguanodon provides family fun for Dino lovers of all ages.
Fossil-fuelled fun ensues as the dinner guests in the Iguanodon Restaurant, famous dinosaur hunters William Buckland, Gideon Mantell, Mary Anning and Richard Owen wrangle over their amazing fossil finds.
Is it a bird? A giant fish? An ancient crocodile? They debate questions around extinction and evolution – how come dinosaurs no longer exist? What does the stone beneath our feet tell us about the world? And what’s really in that blancmange? Find out in this highly visual, funny and peculiar performance, which will have British Sign Language interpretation.
Perfect for families the Iggy performances (taking place at 12.30pm and 2.30pm) will be accompanied on the Dino Day by a drop-in workshop – children (age 4 to 104!) can learn more about fossils, dinosaurs and of course about their local museum. Roll your sleeves up and get creative with some brilliant activities:
• Measure Up: How big is the longest dinosaur? Come and learn some fun facts and see just how huge these dinosaurs were that roamed the Earth!
• Badge Making: Get creative and be inspired by the Iggy Performance. Create your very own badge to take home as a special souvenir of the day.
• Book Nook: Take some time out to sit quietly under the tree and read all about dinosaurs, fossils and other amazing facts from the era of the dinosaurs!
• Scavenger Hunt: A more in-depth quiz for keen Dino hunters, finding clues and drawings around the park… who knows what you will find?
• Fossil Frenzy: What will you find in the sand? Perhaps some fossils from long ago? How will you know what they are, can you identify them? Have fun learning and exploring!
Please note:
• The park has no public toilets on site. The nearest toilets are on the seafront here:
