Carroll Co. Master Gardeners: Fall Gardening in the CORE Garden

Topics to be covered:

1. Cover Crops

- What are cover crops and why use them? Learn which to use and what to do with them when their job is done.

2. Vegetable Seed Saving

- How to save vegetable seeds from this year for next year’s sowing.

3. Garlic

- Grow Garlic! Learn how to plant and when. Take home some garlic to grow on your own!

Please bring a notebook and pen/pencil for note taking.

Please wear appropriate footwear for walking on grass and slopes.

Apply insect repellent if desired. Our gardens are open air and you will encounter insects.

Wear a hat if desired. Our garden has a western exposure.

Directions to CORE Demonstration Garden within the Carroll Count Ag Center grounds:

Please do not go to the Ext. Office building at the end of Smith Ave.

Instead, use the Gist Rd entrance (Agricultural Center Drive/Donald Lippy Way) onto the Ag Center property, past the County Home Farm/Willow Pond on your right.

Stay right and enter the large gates on your right (the 4-H Therapeutic Riding Horse Barn will be on your right, the large paved lower parking lot on your left).

Signs will be posted on this fence/gate and along the way to the CORE garden.

Follow the road past the horse barn, stay right, follow the road as it leads down the hill behind the Ag Center Shipley arena. Note, the road is gravel, drive slowly and carefully.

You will pass a water pumping station on your right, continue to proceed down the road.

The CORE Demonstration Garden will be on your right, on the other side of the guard rail.

Please park in the large lot at the end of the road, or along the sides of the road.

Proceed down the hill on foot, through the grass, to the garden entrance gate. Master Gardeners will be stationed to greet you.
