Two days, countless ways to see Degas come alive at Purdue Galleries! Join us on December 10 & 11 in The Degas Gallery in the Purdue Memorial Union for artmaking, talks, music, treats, and giveaways. All events are free and open to the public!
Wednesday, December 10th
12-1PM - Cello quartet concert with Prof. Kristen Yeon and her students featuring carols, 19th century classics, and more.
12:30-2PM - Sculpture making workshop with Tyler McCoy, Art Education Intern with Purdue Galleries. Open to all, this art making workshop will lead you through making clay-and-wire sculptures similar to the Degas originals! Each participant will also get a miniature 3D print from the Degas Collection.
2-3PM - Drawing Degas with Prof. Jong-un Choi. Try out basic figure drawing in the Degas Gallery! All skill levels welcome (including zero).
4-5:30PM - The Beauty and the Beast: Women in the Performing Arts through the Lens of Degas with Curator Kirstin Gotway and Prof. Kathleen Hickey
Thursday, December 11th
11AM-12PM - Meet the Donor with Avrum Gray and Prof. Michael Shelden. Avrum Gray (joining virtually) will be interviewed by biographer and Pulitzer Prize finalist Michael Shelden.
12-1PM - Behind the Book with Prof. Michael Shelden and Director Erika Kvam. Join the conversation on a book-in-progress by Michael Shelden and Purdue Galleries featuring the Degas Collection!
1-2PM - Drawing Degas with Aaron Ilyas Lewis. Try out basic figure drawing in the Degas Gallery! All skill levels welcome (including zero).
2:30-3:30PM - Facets of Exhibition Design with Director Erika Kvam. Walk and talk through design decisions and processes of the Degas Gallery and other exhibitions with Purdue Galleries Director Erika Kvam.
3PM - Study Break activities and treats in the Director’s room. Round out Degas Days and take a study break with puzzles, art activities, and snacks!
