A musical fantasy film, the first part of a two-part adaptation of the stage musical, focusing on the untold story of the witches of Oz. It follows the unlikely friendship of Elphaba, a young woman with green skin who develops her powers, and Glinda, a popular and ambitious student, at Shiz University. The film stars Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba and Ariana Grande as Glinda, and explores themes of identity, prejudice, and friendship as their paths diverge after an encounter with the Wizard of Oz.
