Charles Rolls – Auto Pioneer and Aviator

Renowned author Bruce Lawson has written the definitive biography of Charles Rolls – founder of Rolls Royce and early pioneer aviator – an activity which tragically led to his early death at the age of 32 when the tail of his Wright Flyer aircraft broke off in an air display in Bournemouth and crashed to the ground – making him the first victim of such an air disaster.

His talk will introduce you to the life of this charismatic pioneer.

Though the badge is indistinct this balloon may be his 'Midget'. Mrs. Assheton Harbord owned her own balloon (Nebia) and was a dedicated aeronaut, crossing the Channel a number of times.
