Nau mai, haere mai to to ‘He Timotimo’, Wellington City Libraries’ te reo Māori taster sessions at Te Whare Pukapuka o Te Awa-a-Taia | Ruth Gotlieb (Kilbirnie) Library.
We know it can be scary to start learning a new language and that te reo Māori classes fill up quickly in Wellington so we are pleased to announce that we have free, friendly classes Thursday late afternoons starting Thursday 9 October that are available for bookings now.
These are introductory classes for beginners and will have a new topic each week as a taster, he timotimo, to get you started. The sessions will be fun and you will be supported as you learn the basics with our specially designed programme developed by Neavin Broughton and taught in association with Te Reihine Roberts-Thompson.
Bookings will be essential as numbers are limited.
To register: please phone or visit Kilbirnie Library (04 387 1480). Each session needs to be booked separately.
The topics for each session are:
9 October: Beginning Pronunciation
16 October: Greetings and Introducing Ourselves
23 October: Words with Double Vowel Sounds
30 October: Common Pronunciation Mistakes
6 November: Wellington Place Names
13 November: Powhiri
The classes are informal and you will not need textbooks or other materials, you might just want to bring a notebook and pen to take some notes.
