The Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet has allocated funding for me to analyse the relationship between game development and pathways to violence and extremism. In the past this research as mostly been conducted by sociologists outside of the industry. We will unpack the analysis of game development and the hidden pathways to extremism and share as game designers, what features of games are associated with fostering isolation.
In this workshop we will have open dialogue as well as round tables to discuss tools for community managers to help find and mediate these issues, with a focus on how to identify and reintegrate players back into communities.
The input from this workshop will be reviewed and a wrap-up talk given the following afternoon to present findings and share next steps.
