A group of Croatian and Australian academics are touring NZ Croatian clubs in November, as a contribution to the celebration of the 1100th anniversary of the coronation of the Croatian King Tomislav. It’s a wonderful chance to engage with new ideas.
They will be at our club on Wednesday 26 November at 5.30pm (for a 6pm presentation). It is part of a project on “Science, Culture and Economy – Links between Croatian Communities in the World and the Homeland”.
The presentations are on:
- Brief history of Croatian standard language – Prof. Luka Budak (former Head of Croatian Studies, Macquarie University);
- World-renowned Croatian scientists and inventors – Dr. Marijana Borić, Scientific Advisor (Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts – CASA);
- The Croatian economy from 1992 to the present day – Prof. Tomislava Majić, Senior Lecturer (University North); and
- Croatian language recognition in Australia in 1970s – Prof. Ana Bruning (former lecturer at Croatian Studies, Macquarie University and long-time Croatian language teacher at the Croatian Schools in Sydney.
The presenters acknowledge the support of Croatian Studies Foundation of Australia, Central State Office for Croats Outside of the Republic of Croatia, Foundation of Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts.

This will be followed by a question and discussion time, with a light supper and drinks.
