After receiving glowing international reviews for his debut album Questions in Red, flamboyant saxophonist and multi-instrumentalist Oscar Lavën is thrilled to release another exciting album, "Elegant Calamity" during the Wellington Jazz Festival, drawing together a vibrant collection of all-star musicians from various backgrounds under one roof, drawing influence from early American swing, blues, classical music, french cinema, spiritual jazz and 50’s bar-walking rock and roll saxophone.
Prepare to be swept into a surreal, cinematic world by the Elegant Calamity Orchestra; strings, woodwinds, brass, virtuosic percussionists and a deep-digging rhythm section, combining kaleidoscopic orchestral colours with the dangerous spontaneity of a small group.
