About the event
Silent Sky
Set at the dawn of the 20th century, Silent Sky is based on the remarkable, true story of Henrietta Leavitt—a pioneering astronomer whose curiosity and dedication helped illuminate the very stars above us. Though barred from touching a telescope or voicing her theories, Henrietta’s resolve, along with that of her fellow “computers,” reshaped our understanding of the cosmos.
As Henrietta painstakingly measures the light and distance of faraway stars, she is also forced to measure the distances in her own life - between family, duty, and the possibility of love. This compelling narrative explores the obstacles faced by women in science, whose groundbreaking ideas were often overlooked in favor of their male colleagues, and celebrates the social and scientific progress forged by their passion and perseverance.
Penned by one of today’s most celebrated playwrights, Lauren Gunderson, Silent Sky is more than history - it’s a call to remember and honor the women whose voices advanced both science and society.
