Community Documentary Screening: Echoes of Forks of Cypress
Saturday, October 25th | 5:00 PM
Location: 8215 Waxhaw Highway, Waxhaw, NC
Join the Waxhaws community — and neighbors from near and far — for a powerful evening of truth-telling, connection, and reflection.
We invite you to a special screening of the documentary Echoes of Forks of Cypress, a compelling film that explores the lives of enslaved individuals and their enslavers at the historic Forks of Cypress plantation in Florence, Alabama. The story traces the enduring legacy of slavery through the voices of descendants who come together today to confront history, honor the lives of the enslaved, and seek collective healing.
We are honored to welcome the filmmaker, Frederick DeShon Murphy, who will be in attendance.
Mr. Murphy will share insights into the making of the film and join us in conversation following the screening.
Following the film, stay for a community reception with light refreshments — a time for dialogue, connection, and reflection on our shared history.
This event is open to all — families, churches, local leaders, community organizations, and individuals from across the Waxhaws and beyond.
Admission is free.
Let’s gather to listen, learn, and move forward — together.
