About the event

Chainsaws: Past and Present
Discover the unexpected history and cultural significance of one of the most powerful handheld tools—the chainsaw—at the upcoming program, "Chainsaws: Past and Present," with author James Card on Thursday, November 6, at 6 p.m. at the Holly History and Genealogy Center.

Card will share insights from his book, "Chainsaw Love" (to be published by the Wisconsin Historical Society Press in September 2025), offering unflinching stories and reflections about the role chainsaws have played in modern life—and the people who rely on them.

A writer for the Waupaca County Post, Card has written for The New York Times, Rolling Stone, and other national publications. He is also the author of The Dawn Patrol Diaries, chronicling his time as South Korea’s only fly-fishing guide.

This program is free and open to the public.
