The Young Birds hatched in the winter of 2014, when the lead singers of two DC-based bands, MJ McLaughlin (Hello Dharma) and Andy Valenti (Oh He Dead), migrated into the same flock. Finding themselves perched on the same branch of musical taste, the pair quickly began to build a nest of harmony-laden indie rock.
Taking flight with inspiration from The Beach Boys, The Beatles, Wilco, Neil Young, Dr. Dog, and Fleet Foxes, the duo crafts lyric-and-harmony-driven songs that glide effortlessly between folk, americana, and classic rock. Now flying in a V-Formation, the band is flanked by all-star aviaries: Colin Sidley on bass, Keith Butler on drums, and Zack Berman on keys.
The band will spread its wings once again with the release of their 4-song sophomore EP, "No One Likes a Quitter," landing this October.

Chi (the middle name and nom de plume of Stephane Detchou)—frontman of DC funk-soul collective Everyday Everybody—blends soul, folk, funk, and afro-acoustic rhythm into songs that are both intimate and expansive. With poetic lyricism, deep groove, and a voice rooted in nostalgia and wonder, his music leans into themes of love, identity, parenthood, and the search for meaning in adulthood—songs that invite listeners into a sound meant to stir both heart and body.
Drawing inspiration from artists like Henri Dikongué, Marvin Gaye, Dave Matthews, and Bloc Party, Chi shapes a sound that is both rooted and searching. This fall marks the beginning of his solo chapter with the release of Little One (Sept) and Leave a Light (Oct), the lead single that opens the door to his debut album The Wonderful Life of Brother GoodLove, arriving later this year. Previously releasing music as Brother GoodLove, he was featured as lead vocalist on As Far As We Know from Crushed Velvet and the Velveteers’ Love & Truth (Vintage League Music)—a track praised as “a call for empathy” (Glide Magazine) and “a modern soul anthem” (SoulTracks).
With Chi, the focus is a soul-driven project that brings together the warmth of storytelling and the urgency of rhythm. His forthcoming album carries that spirit forward—and his live sets offer a first glimpse, moving fluidly between hushed folk intimacy and full-band, sweat-drenched soul.
