ABOUT THE ARTISTS:
MARTINA BARTA (CZ/DE)
Renowned Czech-German jazz vocalist, songwriter, and bandleader, Martina Barta is celebrated for her expressive voice, deep musicality, and commanding stage presence. Classically trained on multiple instruments, she is a graduate of the Manhattan School of Music (Jazz Arts, mentored by Buster Williams and Theo Bleckmann) and the Jazz Institute Berlin (studying with Judy Niemack and David Friedman). Barta has performed at major international venues including Carnegie Hall, Jazz at Lincoln Center, the Berlin Philharmonie, and Konzerthaus Berlin, and collaborated with orchestras such as the Berlin Symphony Orchestra and the Big Band of the Deutsche Oper Berlin. In 2017, she represented the Czech Republic at the Eurovision Song Contest. Her recent duo album with David Friedman, You Taught My Heart to Sing, has received critical acclaim for its intimacy, sophistication, and emotional depth.
DAVID FRIEDMAN (USA) A legendary jazz vibraphonist, composer, and educator, David Friedman has performed and recorded with icons such as Wayne Shorter, Joe Henderson, Ron Carter, Horace Silver, Johnny Griffin, Bobby McFerrin, and many others. A Juilliard graduate and former faculty member at the Manhattan School of Music and Jazz-Institut Berlin, Friedman is revered for his harmonic sophistication and expressive mastery. His performances combine elegance, innovation, and decades of musical wisdom.
MIKE RICHMOND (USA) A true giant of the jazz bass, Grammy Award–winning bassist Mike Richmond has appeared on more than 350 recordings and collaborated with legends including Miles Davis, Stan Getz, Dizzy Gillespie, Quincy Jones, and the Charles Mingus organizations. A professor at New York University and author of the influential Modern Walking Bass Technique, Richmond is equally respected as a performer and educator, bringing depth, drive, and authority to every ensemble.
ADAM NUSSBAUM (USA) One of jazz’s most dynamic drummers, Adam Nussbaum has energized collaborations with Sonny Rollins, John Scofield, Michael Brecker, Stan Getz, Gil Evans, and Carla Bley. Known for his exceptional groove, versatility, and musical intelligence, Nussbaum is also a dedicated educator at NYU and the New School. His drumming blends power, precision, and deep respect for jazz tradition.
