Comedy Show for Survival in a Hostile Takeover

DC is being invaded. Unfortunately not by hot aliens, but by an authoritarian crackdown trying to harm those already in the most need of support. As every move from those in power has shown us, democracy is just too messy for them—and that DC residents don’t need things like autonomy, bail reform, or basic human rights.

Grassroots Comedy has seen enough. We’re responding the only way we know how: with laughter and action. Join us for the Comedy Show for Survival in a Hostile Takeover, a hilarious night of stand-up benefitting HIPS—DC’s frontline harm reduction nonprofit that has been fighting for dignity, safety, and care for sex workers, drug users, and unhoused folks for decades. HIPS works on the ground with the most marginalized residents of DC, providing direct support and community care to people who are too often ignored or criminalized. Right now, the people they serve are being targeted and attacked, which makes fundraising more crucial than ever. Every contribution goes directly toward providing snacks, water, wound care, and other essential resources, as well as sustaining a safe indoor space where our community can gather, rest, and heal.

If those sweeping tent cities and shaking up the lives of those at highest risk get their way, it’s our responsibility to show up and do something about it.
