Intuitive Collage Workshop – Saturday September 18th 11:00am – 3:00pm
Collage art allows you to explore yourself without any special training or ability to draw or paint. Just a good pair of scissors, glue and a desire to create!
There are no limits to what you can do in the world of collage, but how on earth do you even start? Staring at a blank surface can be stifling…
In this NO-PRESSURE creative environment, we invite you: Intuitive collage making is a creative process that encourages you to tap into your subconscious mind by assembling images and materials without any predetermined plan. And even if you have a “plan,” intuitive collage making allows your creative energy to run unimpeded to make a truly one-of-a-kind artistic expression.
This 4-hour workshop will introduce you to one of the most effective ways to start collaging – using your intuition, allowing your senses to guide you and inform your brain. Whether working in 2 or 3 dimensions, intuitive collaging is the foundation of creating highly personal, imaginative, inspiring art. And you don’t have to know how to draw or paint to make it!.

Bring a lunch/snack and beverage of choice
Workshop Goals:
Upon the completion of this workshop, the students will be able to:
Use their senses of sight, touch, and balance to begin a piece of collage art
Select images and found objects for their collage by allowing their intuition to guide the composition
Learn how to use the different types of adhesives and preservation mediums best for collaging
Learn how to use your breath to assist in close-cutting images out of printed materials and gaining control of your scissors, X-Acto blades, and fingers for hand-tearing techniques.
Articulate supportive feedback to your classmates to support and elevate their work, and decide if and how to incorporate feedback you receive into your own piece
Materials
Instructor Supplied Materials
Magazines and a box full of images
Miscellaneous found objects
Colored tissue papers and printed napkins
A variety of glues, pastes, Mod Podge, gel mediums, Polycrylic protective finish
Paint brushes and foam brushes to apply the above
Pastels
Watercolor and acrylic inks
Samples of collages to inspire participants about the breadth and freedom of collage making
Student Supplied Materials
Scissors – bring a variety of sizes of scissors (blade length, grip styles, etc) to explore which work best for you for differing outcomes and media you’re cutting
Glue stick (optional)
Apron
A surface onto which you will assemble a collage. Instructor will have a random selection. Ex: 16×20 Heavy stock art paper, canvas board, poster board, etc. (other sizes are acceptable – minimum size 5″x8″)
Additional magazines and found objects that you want to include in a collage (optional)
Feel free to bring your own paints, inks, pastels, markers, pencils, etc
Feel free to bring samples of your work, complete or incomplete, to share and/or work on
Class size limited to ensure individual attention.
