A gripping documentary on the fight to save the dying saltmarsh sparrow, often referred to as a “canary in the coal mine,” will be shown from 6:30- 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 11, at Imago Gallery, 36 Market St., Warren, R.I. The screening is free and open to all.
The Imago Foundation for the Arts (IFA) Film Club, the Warren Land Trust and the Saltmarsh Sparrow Research Initiative cosponsor the screening of “Between Moon Tides – Saving the Saltmarsh Sparrow,” produced by filmmaker and photographer Jason Jaacks, who followed a group of citizen scientists working at Jacob’s Point in Warren as it attempts to the save the tiny bird from extinction. Dependent on healthy salt marshes and living only on the U.S. East Coast, the bird’s population has diminished by 75% since the 1990s.
Jaacks has produced television for National Geographic, PBS and the New York Times.
The filming will be followed by a Q+A session. The Imago Film Club meets the second Thursday of each month, 6:30 to 8 p.m. in the gallery. All are welcome.
