Set in the dining room of a typical mid-20th century household, this brilliantly conceived and richly humorous theatrical tour de force showcases the now neglected room which was once the vital center of family life. In a mosaic of interrelated scenes—some funny, some touching, —an ensemble of actors creates an in-depth portrait of a vanishing lifestyle. Audition Information:
An Ensemble of 6 - 8 actors (all ages 18+)
The play consists of 18 distinct scenes in which members of the ensemble will perform 58 different roles all taking place in the dining room. The actors change roles, personalities and ages as they portray a wide variety of characters, from little boys to stern grandfathers, and from giggling teenage girls to Irish housemaids. Each vignette introduces a new set of people and events; a father lectures his son on grammar and politics; a boy returns from boarding school to discover his mother’s infidelity; a senile grandmother doesn’t recognize her own sons at Christmas dinner; a daughter, her marriage a shambles, pleads futilely to return home, etc. A rare acting opportunity.
There will be sides available at the audition OR you can come prepared with a monologue.
