The Robert Kozminski Memorial Game is back for 2026, and it’s shaping up to be a great night of basketball, food, raffles, and community support.
This annual event honors Robert Kozminski, a Grand Rapids Police Department officer who was killed in the line of duty on July 8, 2007. The memorial game was created to remember Robert not only for the uniform he wore, but for the character, friendships, and sense of service he brought to the job and the community.
Over the years, it has grown into a meaningful tradition that brings together local law enforcement agencies and the community for a fun, competitive night that’s about more than just the scoreboard—reflecting what Robert stood for: teamwork, commitment, connection, and giving back.
Game lineup:
• Kentwood Police vs. Kenowa Hills Staff – 5:00 PM
• Kent County Sheriff’s Office vs. Grand Rapids Police Department – 6:30 PM
There will be tons of raffle prizes, and Saladino Smoke will be on site with food available for purchase.
Best of all, proceeds from the event benefit Ainsley Staeven, daughter of Grand Rapids Police Officer Matt Staeven, who is currently receiving treatment for cancer. Every dollar raised goes toward supporting Ainsley and her family.
Bring the kids. Bring your friends. Fill the stands.
Come out for a fun night and be part of a tradition that shows what happens when public safety and the community come together for a great cause.
