Step back in time to the days of the great cattle drives! Join us at The Little Red Hen Theatre for Cattle Trails and Songs of the West, presented in partnership by the Wakefield Heritage Organization and The Little Red Hen Theatre.
When the Union Pacific railroad crossed Nebraska in 1867, cowboys drove hundreds of thousands of cattle north from Texas to Ogallala—singing songs along the way to pass the time and calm the herds. These trail songs, rooted in European folk traditions, gave birth to western music as we know it today.
Our featured presenter, Jean Wells—an independent scholar, National Cowgirl Hall of Fame inductee, and trick rope expert—brings history to life with music, stories, and cowboy culture. Perfect for audiences of all ages, this program is engaging, educational, and fun.
Don’t miss this chance to celebrate the history, songs, and spirit of the Old West!
