The Texas Sports Hall of Fame (TSHOF) will celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Texas Longhorns’ 2005 National Championship and thrilling Rose Bowl victory at its upcoming Lone Star Luncheon on Tuesday, August 19, 2025, featuring Texas Longhorn legends Vince Young and Mack Brown. 🤘🏈
Coach Mack Brown and Quarterback Vince Young were both instrumental in leading the Horns to that undefeated season that culminated with the thrilling 41-38 Rose Bowl win over USC on January 4, 2006. Many consider that contest the greatest college football game ever, and luncheon attendees will hear firsthand reflections on that historic season from the head coach and record-setting quarterback.
A 2011 inductee into the TSHOF, Mack Brown led the Longhorns for 16 seasons, amassing 158 wins against only 48 losses. His teams won 10 games in nine consecutive seasons and made 18 consecutive bowl game appearances, and he was the first coach ever to win 100 games with two different programs (Texas and North Carolina). Texas’ 2005 national title was the school’s fourth ever, but its first since the 1970 season.
Vince Young, a 2018 TSHOF inductee, compiled a 30-2 record in three years with the Horns. He was the first Division 1 collegiate player ever to pass for more than 3,000 yards and rush for more than 1,000 yards in the same season. In 2005 he won the Davey O’Brien award as the nation’s top quarterback, but finished second to Reggie Bush of USC in the Heisman Trophy voting. Young proved those voters wrong in the Rose Bowl win over USC. Vince Young was selected by the Tennessee Titans as the #3 overall pick in the 2006 NFL draft and went on to become pro football’s Rookie of the Year.
At this time, ticket sales will be tables only, and the event is expected to be a sellout. A table of eight seats is $700. A limited number of premium location tables are $1,000 and include an autographed item from Mack Brown and Vince Young. Presenting Sponsor opportunity is $2,500 and includes recognition at the event, a photo opportunity and seats at the speakers' table.
