Start the new year on the right foot—literally! Join us for a rejuvenating 2-3 mile First Day Hike through the scenic trails of Black Run Preserve, where fresh air, quiet woods, and the beauty of the Pine Barrens set the tone for a healthy and mindful year ahead.
Led by knowledgeable Ambassadors, this gentle hike is a chance to connect with nature, learn about the ecology of the preserve in winter, and enjoy the peaceful surroundings of this unique South Jersey landscape.
Whether you're setting a fitness goal, looking for a new tradition, or simply want to spend the first day of the year outdoors, this is the perfect way to begin 2026. Our trails have hard and soft sand, slight elevations, roots, and stumps and some wet areas. Porta Potty is available at the beginning and end of hike.

TIME: 10:00am to 12:00pm (Meet at the welcome table at 9:30 am to check in.
WHERE TO MEET: Kettle Run Road East Trailhead Entrance. This is the main trailhead for Black Run Preserve.
WHAT TO WEAR: Dress with layers for the weather and bring a water bottle. Protect yourself from the sun, bugs, and cold.Hiking boots, sturdy shoes, or waterproof boots are recommended.
DETAILS: This is a social/informational hike to familiarize participants with the trails of the Black Run Preserve and the Friends of the Black Run Preserve community.
