Runners Oost Groningen organiseert voor de 27e keer de Monnikentocht voor marathonlopers, ultralopers, sportief wandelaars en Nordic Walking vanaf het Klooster in Ter Apel en vanaf camping De Bronzen Eik te Sellingen door het fraaie landschap van Westerwolde over verharde en onverharde wegen en paden naar vesting Bourtange.
