The Museum of Veterans in Vilonia will hold the annual Spirit of Christmas event set to begin at 9 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 6. It is a family event but also the museum's largest fundraising event of the year. The proceeds from this event goes strictly to the museum. Included in the event will be a bake sale in the barn, sponsored by the best cooks in Faulkner County.
Another part of the event, a silent auction will begin online this week for several items compliments of museum sponsors. A majority of these items will be one of a kinds including artwork, quilts and homemade items as well as decorated trees with gift certificates. All donated. Watch out for the list.
Come hungry, Dec. 6, and opt for a bowl of homemade chili or gumbo, in the barn, for $5. That's also where big kids and little kids, alike, can set on Santa's lap and share their Christmas wishes. Bring your cameras.
Hammer Mannon of Enders, with his mules and buggy, will provide free field rides to all ages from 9 to noon.
The Faulkner County Animal Shelter will be there helping some animals find a home for Christmas.
Beginning at 9 a.m., will be an outdoor historical tour--Vilonia's Wade Lenz will make stories about the Civil War come alive in the chapel; Greenbrier's Braden Reed will share the Christmas Truce of WWI; Conway's Matt Savage will leave one inspired with his story of WWII. If you are a history buff, young or old, this is a must do.
Conway's Cindy Watkins will read a sweet Christmas story for one and all. Sponsored by a kind donor attached to the museum, she will give away an outdoor blow-up nativity scene to one lucky person and also three Christmas books to the winners of a drawing. Just get a card stamped by attending four events to be in the drawing.
Attendees, all ages, have from 9 to 10:30 to get their cards stamped and in the drawings for these items with the drawing to be held at 10:25. Cards must have four stamps to be in drawing.
At 10:30, ages 12 and up (yes, adults) , need to be lined up for the money muster. You got to have stamina to win. There will be obstacles to make it to the mine field where you can rescue one soldier at a time. An anonymous sponsor of this event will give away a $50 bill to one lucky winner. There are also other smaller gift items. Balls are involved. This event ends at 11 a.m.
The Vilonia Cloggers will perform at 11:05 a.m.
