Spalio 14 d. Muzeotekoje (Vilniaus g. 41) TAIP TOLIAU kino klubą tęsiame su režisierės iš Irano Marvos Nabili filmu UŽANTSPAUDUOTA ŽEMĖ, kurio ji taip ir neparodė savo gimtojoje šalyje. Filmą pristatys ir diskusiją po filmo moderuos žmogaus teisių specialistė Goda Jurevičiūtė.
Net neabejojame, kad įprasta diskusija po peržiūros neapsiribos Irano kultūrinio konteksto apžvelgimu. Šiomis dienomis cenzūra ir draudimai – šių metų kino klubo tema – dar labiau priartėjo prie mūsų čia, Lietuvoje. Kiekviena proga susitikti su žiūrovais yra proga pasidalinti pastebėjimais ir idėjomis apie kovą, kurioje dabar esame.

Aštuoniolikmetė Rū Bekeirė atsisako paklusti tradicijai – sulaukusi santuokinio amžiaus, ji yra spaudžiama pasirinkti vieną iš jai siūlomų jaunikių. Atkaklų merginos siekį būti nepriklausoma artimieji palaiko demoniško apsėdimo požymiu ir kreipiasi į egzorcistą, kad išlaisvintų ją nuo „netinkamų“ minčių bei troškimų. Tuo pat metu regime kasdienį jos šeimos ir viso kaimo, kuriam valdžios įsakymu liepta išsikelti dėl modernizacijos projekto, gyvenimą. Ši istorija apie moterų autonomiją ir tylią vidinę revoliuciją, dėl atidumo kasdienybei bei meditatyvaus ritmo dažnai lyginama su Chantal Ackerman „Žana Dilman, Komercijos krantinė 23, 1080 Briuselis“.
Režisierės iš Irano Marvos Nabili filmas „Užantspauduota žemė“ yra yra ankstyviausias pilnai iki šių dienų išlikęs moters režisierės ilgo metro filmas sukurtas Irane. Jis filmuotas 1976 m., Iraną dar valdant šahui, kuris kreipė šalį vakarietiškos modernizacijos keliu, bet kartu artėjant 1979 m. Islamo revoliucijai. Nabili net nebandė parodyti filmo gimtojoje šalyje. Susidūrusi su nepasitikėjimu moters sugebėjimu režisuoti ji negavo finansavimo, todėl filmavo „Užantspauduotą žemę“ slapta, su mažu biudžetu, 16 mm kamera ir neprofesionaliais aktoriais per 6 dienas nuošaliame kaime. Pati abejodama savo šalies noru matyti istoriją iš skurdaus kaimo ir tokį Iraną rodyti pasauliui, ji išvežė medžiagą paslėpusi dvigubame lagamino dugne ir pabaigė filmą montuoti bei kurti garsą jau grįžusi į Niujorką. Praėjus beveik penkiasdešimčiai metų, dėka skaitmeninės restauracijos filmas grįžta į pasaulio ekranus.

14 October at Muzeoteka (Vilniaus g. 41) we will continue screenings of TAIP TOLIAU film club with the film by Iranian director Marva Nabili, THE SEALED SOIL, which she didn’t even attempt to screen in her home country. Human rights practitioner Goda Jurevičiūtė will present the film and moderate the discussion.
We have no doubt that the usual discussion after the screening will not be limited to an overview of the cultural context of Iran. These days, censorship and prohibitions – the theme of this year's film club – have come even closer to us here in Lithuania. Every opportunity to meet with viewers is an opportunity to share observations and ideas about the struggle we are currently engaged in.

Eighteen-year-old Roo-Bekheir refuses to submit to tradition – having reached marriageable age, she is pressured to choose one of a line of suitors. Her determined pursuit of independence is seen by her relatives as a sign of demonic possession, and they turn to an exorcist to rid her of such “improper” thoughts and desires. At the same time, we witness the everyday life of her family and of an entire village ordered by the authorities to relocate as part of a modernisation project. This is a story of female autonomy and of a silent inner revolution, often compared – for its attentiveness to daily life and meditative rythm – with Chantal Akerman’s Jeanne Dielman, 23 quai du Commerce, 1080 Brussels.
Iranian director Marwa Nabili’s The Sealed Soil is only the third film ever made by a woman in Iran and out of them, the earliest surviving feature film. It was made in 1976, during the reign of the Shah, who was steering the country towards Western-style modernisation, but with the Islamic Revolution of 1979 already looming on the horizon. Nabili never even attempted to screen the film in her homeland. Confronted with mistrust in a woman’s ability to direct and denied funding, she secretly shot The Sealed Soil on a shoestring budget in just six days, in a remote village, using non-professional actors and a 16mm camera. Doubting her country’s willingness to see a story set in a poor village – or to let the world see this image of Iran – she smuggled the footage out hidden in the double bottom of a suitcase, completing the editing and sound design back in New York. Nearly fifty years later, the film returns to the world’s screens thanks to digital restoration.
