The Downbeat Presents:
Deko-ze (To.)
Taffi Louis (Van.)
Clark
It’s our dear friend Zac Wild’s birthday, and he asked us if we could bring Toronto powerhouse, Deko-ze to come play. Being as this was already squarely in our sights, we jumped at the opportunity to get Deko-ze back to Vic. We are also very excited to have Vancouver’s Taffi Louis come to play his singular blend of Italo, Techno and Electro before Deko- ze tears it up. Rounding out our lineup will be the one and only Clark- whose sets are fast becoming favourites for those seeking a headier release on the dance floor.

Deko-ze, dubbed 'Canada's hardest working DJ', has been setting the standard in the Canadian music scene for nearly 20 years. Promoter- having rose to notoriety as co-owner of Plastic Puppet Motive, one of Western Canada’s most revered promotions teams, radio show host & producer, promo pool reporter, magazine columnist and record store music purchaser are some of the hats he has worn over the years. While burning up the decks across Canada, as well as in the US, Mexico, UK, Germany and Taiwan, he is renowned for his ability to seamlessly meld genres (house, tech, tribal and techno) into his own signature vibrant and energetic mix.
Deko-ze has held residencies all over Canada, and was a regular at legendary Victoria club, Hush Nightclub, and is firmly entrenched in it’s history.
With tracks, compilations and remixes on Deported, Hotboxdigital, Pacha, KULT, Coraza, Natura Viva, Tactical and Hi-Bias Records and with this year's launch of the Jungle Funk label with co-conspirator Jerome Robins, Deko-ze has definitely earned his place as one of Canada’s top underground dance acts.
Taffi Louis (Van.)

For over two decades, Taffi Louis has treated DJing not as a career path, but as a lifelong experiment in how music can reshape a room. His first gig- at a Vancouver Gay bar- unexpectedly kicked off a six year weekly residency with complete freedom to roam. Nights would start off with house, italo and new wave; morphing into a late-night fetish vibe with heavier nu-disco, techno and electro clash pushing the envelope while mapping out links to what came before. An audience nostalgic for Giorgio Moroder and synth pop could be just as ravenous for Vitalic or Gesaffelstein when you connect the dots.
That subversive instinct soon spilled into his own events in the mid- 2000’s. What began as niche queer events evolved into creating inclusive spaces and shifting focus from the presumed audience over to music defying easy categorization; era- hopping, retro futuristic, catchy yet strange, the music at Truckerdisco and Roboteria nights created their own niches, despite conventional wisdom that says to identify your audience first.
His edits are supported worldwide by DJ’s like The Hacker, Italo Brutalo, Local Suicide and many more.
Clark (Vic.)
Clark is the consummate tastemaker. He has been curating underground dance lineups for some of Vancouver Islands most notorious stages for well over a decade, with deep involvement in the West Coast dance music community for well over 20 years. Clarks efforts curating artists for major events like The Spirit Tree Stage at Tall Tree Music Festival, and the electronic dance acts at the legendary Song and Surf Music festival (which has garnered so much trust from its diehard fans that it sells out in minutes, long before the always stellar lineup is announced), have spilled over to his set curation. His selections go deep, taking advantage of his years of exposure to some of the worlds premier diggers and selectors, but his sets are aimed squarely at making us dance, decoupling us from time; giving ourselves over to rhythm and sound. Preferring the long format freestyle set for its capacity for connection with the dancers in front of him, as well as the storytelling that can be accomplished as one DJ links a set together, locked in the moment with a space and and the people filling it, Clark will warm up the room proper with a 2 hour set.
