About the event

Backyards for Biodiversity Workshop Series
The Backyards for Biodiversity workshop series is all about helping you create habitat at home. If you’ve ever wanted to make your garden more wildlife-friendly, support local species, or simply feel more connected to nature, these sessions are for you.

Led by Hannah from Habitat Connection Co., over six engaging and informative sessions, held fortnightly from 6-7.30pm, you’ll learn how to:

- Create native gardens that attract and support wildlife and pollinators
- Play a role in strengthening urban biodiversity corridors and climate resilience
- Understand why local native plants and animals are so important in our ecosystems
- Take simple, everyday actions that make a real difference in your own backyard

Here’s what you can expect in each session:

Session 1 Tuesday 3rd Feb: Habitat Gardening at Home – You’ll discover practical design ideas to create food, shelter, and nesting spaces for local wildlife.

Session 2 Tuesday 17th Feb: Native Gardens for Small Spaces – Even your balcony, courtyard, or pots can become powerful pockets of biodiversity - we’ll show you how.

Session 3 Tuesday 3rd March: Native Pollinators in Your Backyard – You’ll explore the essential role of native pollinators and learn how to attract them with our local native plants.

Session 4 Tuesday 17th March: Native Bees in Your Backyard – Meet our local native bees and find out how to support them with bee hotels and the right plants.

Session 5 Tuesday 31st March: Native Butterflies in Your Backyard – Learn the life cycles of local butterflies and discover which host plants they rely on to thrive.

Session 6 Tuesday 14th April: Native Birds in Your Backyard and celebration – You’ll learn how to bring more birdlife into your garden with food, water, shelter, and safe nesting spots.

To celebrate completing the workshop series, you’ll receive a pack of local native plants - perfect for kickstarting your very own biodiversity-friendly garden.

Can’t make it to every session? That’s okay! You’re welcome to come along to a single session for free.

This workshop series is a collaboration between Alexandrina Council and Second Nature Conservancy as part of the Alexandrina Greening and Wildlife Project, funded by Alexandrina Council and Green Adelaide.
