Henry Raab is a furniture maker from Indianapolis, Indiana. He primarily makes reproductions of American furniture from before 1900, drawing inspiration from the tools, shops, and stories of the craftspeople who made the original pieces.
For the past 4 years, Henry has been employed as a Historic Trades Specialist at Conner Prairie in Fishers, IN, where he interprets a reconstructed 19th-century cabinetmaker’s shop to the public, as well as teaching woodworking classes, producing museum reproductions, and maintaining more than 25 historic buildings dating back as early as the 1820s.
As an artisan, researcher, storyteller, and preservationist, Henry is passionate about sharing and protecting valuable knowledge of our shared past as Americans, which can better equip us for the future.
He will be demonstrating cabinetmaking and house joinery as it may have been practiced by early Switzerland Co. woodworkers, and discussing the life and legacy of George G. Knox, Vevay’s first cabinetmaker.
