6 Decades of Martial Arts Knowledge Distilled Into A 4 hr. Seminar
This seminar is about what I call Budo Science. What is Budo Science? It is the breakdown of the different principles and applications of martial arts in an easy to understand and logical manner.
Budo 武 道
In Japanese, “bu” means “war” or “martial” and “do” means “path” or “way.” The literal English translation of budo is “the martial way.” You might also see it referred to as “the way of war.” In general terms, budo is now used to describe both the training and culture that goes into martial arts practice.
Science (Kagaku in Japanese 科学)
The systematic study of the structure and behavior of the physical and natural world through observation, experimentation, and the testing of theories against the evidence obtained.
Martial arts have been shrouded in mystery since time immemorial. "How do you do this?" "How does that work?" "Can I ever reach such heights?" and questions like these are often met with nebulous answers such as “train hard”, “you’ll understand in due time” and other vaguenesses which have been no help at all.
Spending 59 years in the martial arts, I have come to a point where all of my major questions have been answered. Yes, you read that right. ALL of my major questions. The combination of the arts I teach comes under the umbrella heading of Anderson Martial Arts Systems. Underlying them are the principles and concepts of what I call Budo Science.
I have written over 40 books on karate, Filipino Martial Arts, and martial arts in general covering many aspects of each. I have produced an equal amount of video titles.
I have never taught, in one sitting, a summation that encompasses, in my opinion, my understanding of all martial arts.
Until now.
I will break down various principles and aspects of martial arts based on my training and practice of both karate and arnis as well as my study of the principles of other martial arts over the last 6 decades. Do not worry that I have not trained in silat, taiji, Brazilian jiu-jitsu or many other martial arts. Movement is movement. Principles are principles. These apply to all martial arts.
The seminar will be on October 18th at East-West Martial Arts, Hwy 99, Vancouver, WA. It will run from 9 am to 1 pm.
The cost is only $50 per participant.
