Topics of Discussion:

Monitoring during anesthesia is more than watching numbers on a screen—it’s about understanding what those numbers mean for your patient in real time. In this first module of our Anesthesia Academy series, Dr. Julie Smith DVM, DACVAA and Justin Goodrich LVT will take you beyond the basics of physiologic monitoring, covering ECG, pulse oximetry, capnography, arterial blood pressure, and temperature.

Through real-world case discussions and troubleshooting strategies, you’ll learn how to:

  • Recognize normal values, limitations, and red flags across common monitoring tools.
  • Troubleshoot abnormal readings and apply corrective actions quickly.
  • Integrate data from multiple modalities to guide safe, effective anesthesia.
  • Appreciate the critical role of capnography beyond a single number.

What makes this series different?
To ensure every session is practical and relevant, participants will receive a short pre-event questionnaire. Your input will help shape case discussions so the training directly addresses challenges you face in practice.

Whether you’re a veterinary technician or DVM, this session will give you actionable tools to improve anesthetic safety and patient outcomes—skills you can bring back to your patients immediately.

Why attend?

  • Get a practical, case-based approach to anesthesia monitoring
  • Learn to interpret and troubleshoot common equipment and readings
  • Gain a deeper understanding of the critical role of capnography beyond the number

Whether you’re a seasoned technician or a DVM looking to sharpen your anesthesia skills, this session will give you tools you can put into practice immediately.
