About the event

Where Language and Technology Meet: harnessing AI to go further
The evolution of language technology within the European Commission is a remarkable journey, marked by continuous innovation from early rule-based systems to advanced AI-powered tools.

Join Ágnes Farkas from the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Translation as we trace the unlikely story of how a service dealing with translation made the leap to cutting edge technology to power its work and that of others – with the help of the latest technology, EU-based supercomputers, and massive amounts of text.

You will also hear how these services are being used by the European Commission to aid its work, and how public administrations, academia, SMEs and NGOs can make use of them in their daily work.

The European Commission's AI-Based Multilingual Services can help facilitate seamless communication and collaboration across languages, leveraging AI to overcome linguistic barriers.

These services include eTranslation, the European Institutions’ neural machine translation service, and applications for speech recognition, drafting and more.

They build on robust multilingual datasets, and empower individuals and institutions to enhance workflow efficiency and language proficiency.

The tools reflect the transformative potential of AI in daily work environments, underscoring the vital role of technology in fostering multilingualism and collaboration across Europe.
