A sensory experience awaits at Valletta Campus Theatre with TAĦDIT, a black-box sound installation featuring flautist Kathryn Willliams and a surround-sound choral landscape.

Kathryn Williams
Kathryn Williams is a flutist, creative collaborator, and researcher whose work explores tangible connections between body and instrument, interrogating accessibility, physical limitation, and health.Her ongoing project, Coming Up for Air, responds to her experiences of chronic respiratory conditions through a collection of over 150 commissioned single-breath works. Described as “ingeniously inventive” (TEMPO), the project has been performed internationally and featured in Breathe Magazine, BBC Music Magazine, Glissando, TEMPO, and Radio3. An album of 40 single-breath pieces was released on Huddersfield Contemporary Records in 2019, and in 2024 the Coming Up for AirConcerto premiered with the Luxembourg Philharmonic. Recent performances include Akademie der Künste (Berlin), AżTak Festival (Warsaw), and the Royal Conservatory (Antwerp).Beyond performance, Kathryn recently completed a postdoctoral project at the Royal Northern College of Music exploring the interplay between indoor air quality, technology, and musicians’ health and wellbeing through creative practice. She has been awarded a Developing Your Creative Practice grant from Arts Council England to extend her skills further. She holds a PhD from the University of Huddersfield and degrees from the Royal Northern College of Music, and continues to combine performance, research, and advocacy for accessible and sustainable practices in music.
