Welcome to the Lawful by Design Industry Workshop! Join us at the Utrecht University Hall for a day filled with insightful discussions, networking opportunities, and practical activities.

How can we ensure that AI-enabled and autonomous weapon systems are designed, developed, and fielded in a way that is lawful, ethical, safe, and responsible?

This one-day workshop brings together government legal advisors, defence industry, engineers, ethicists, and academics to examine the legal and ethical imperatives for responsible military innovation.

The program is part of the Lawful by Design (LBD) initiative, led by Article 36 Legal, which encourages defence industry to integrate International Humanitarian Law (IHL) compliance and ethical safeguards into the earliest stages of research and development—well before formal Article 36 legal reviews take place.
