Moving Through It: An Embodied Exploration of Resilience, Power, and Play

Join us as Krannert Center offers a special interactive event on October 9, as part of the School of Social Work's Global Mental Health Research and Services Conference.

This 90-minute experiential workshop offers participants an embodied demonstration of the healing power of movement to reduce stress, increase vitality, cultivate belonging, and inspire confidence. Rooted in the belief that movement is a fundamental language of healing, this session invites participants into a playful, community-centered exploration of dance as a tool for navigating the complexity of our lives-emotionally, socially, and spiritually.

Participants will experience movement as a tool for emotional regulation and nervous system support and will leave not only with tools to help themselves and others reconnect to their bodies, but with a renewed sense of possibility: that healing is not only a cognitive pursuit, but a full-bodied one. Through the medium of dance, we learn how to move through life-with greater awareness, more compassion, and deeper joy.

The facilitator for this special event is A. Raheim White, MFA - - Assistant Professor Head of Movement in the Department of Theater at the University of Utah. Raheim received their BFA in Dance Performance and Choreography from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. While earning their MFA in Dance Performance & Choreography from New York University Tisch School of the Arts, Raheim discovered the healing power of Reiki. This encounter forever transformed their life and led to deepening their knowledge of various healing modalities which, in turn, led to certifications in yoga, Social-Emotional Learning Facilitation, meditation, and Akashic Record Reading.

Music styling by Kamau (MauMau) Grantham, psychologist and clinical counselor at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

The conference will be held on the University of Illinois campus October 9 and 10, 2025. Coinciding with World Mental Health Day, this two-day hybrid conference will bring together leaders, researchers, practitioners, and people with lived experience from the local Champaign-Urbana community and around the world.
