Please join us for the Illinois State Sacred Harp Convention, this year held in Urbana, on Saturday, September 20.
The convention will take place at the Channing-Murray Foundation, 9:30 am–3 pm. The building is nestled within the University of Illinois campus near the Krannert Center for the Performing Arts. We'll plan to sing from the 2025 revision of The Sacred Harp and the Missouri Harmony. Bring your 1991 edition of the Sacred Harp in case we do not have enough new loaners/personal copies for everyone. Feel free to bring a dish to share for dinner on the grounds! We hope to see you there!
Channing-Murray Foundation
1209 W Oregon Street
Urbana, Illinois 61801
Parking: There is limited parking behind Channing-Murray (mostly reserved for student housing), but some accessible parking is available. Usually, there is plenty of metered street parking along Mathews Ave. Ample free parking is available just a few blocks away at the Krannert Center garage (500 S Goodwin Ave, Urbana, entrances to the garage on Oregon and Illinois Streets). This side of campus is usually quiet on a Saturday, so don't worry about a busy university setting! (There's no football game on September 20).
Travel: If you'd like to take public transit in from Chicago, the Amtrak line runs directly to downtown Champaign. The bus system in Champaign-Urbana is excellent and you'll easily be able to navigate from the train station to campus.
Accessibility: Channing-Murray is fully accessible with a ramp on the south side of the building and a large accessible restroom on the same floor as the singing.
Food: We'll have dinner on the grounds within the singing space and a side room. We will not have a full kitchen, but will have plenty of space for crockpots. Local singers are encouraged to bring dishes to share.
