If you like military history (especially World War II) and miniature wargaming you may enjoy Angriff! (Attack!) an early battle simulation game from the late 70s. In this game, each troop tray and vehicle are characters with their own capabilities and statistics. Historical data determine troop and vehicle capabilities. These capabilities include armor thickness at various locations for vehicles, tabletop movement, and weapons effectiveness in terms of lethality and range.
This game is not just about tanks. Aircraft, artillery, combat engineers, heavy weapons teams, and infantry (the Queen of the Battlefield) can be integrated into game play.
The game's combat system is primarily based on percentage dice rolls against a set value based on range to target, type of weapon, and other modifiers to determine weapon hits. The goal is to roll below the set percentage. The percentage target to hit and armor penetration factor for any weapon reduces as range increases.
This session is designed to introduce new players to different aspects of the Angriff game system. I plan to include quick scenarios that demonstrate combat rules including:
1. Tank versus tank.
2. Tank versus anti-tank gun.
3. Small arms, infantry versus infantry.
4. Artillery area barrage and over the barrel firing at a visible target.
5. Tactical aircraft dive bombing and strafing.
I'll provide everything you need to participate in the scenarios including dice, miniatures, terrain, and unit / vehicle capabilities. All you need to bring is your curiosity and imagination.
You don't need to stay for the duration of this game demonstration and introduction. Walk-ins (and outs) are more than welcome. My intent is to see if people are interested in participating in future Angriff game sessions.
Have a great day and, as always, thanks for being gamers!
