Join us as we celebrate MLK with an Oratory Competition as we honor the legacy of Dr. King and encourage our youth to engage with his message of justice, equality, and activism. NOW OPEN TO UNION COUNTY STUDENTS AGES 11 - 18!
Participants are to select an excerpt that personally resonates with them, from one (1) of the following speeches (full transcripts can be found by clicking the hyperlinks)
- I Have a Dream
- What Is Your Life's Blueprint?
- The Drum Major Instinct
- I've Been to the Mountaintop
Submissions should be between 3 and 5 minutes in length. Participants may perform their selected speech in full or choose a meaningful excerpt that fits within the time limit.
Participants are encouraged to make the material their own! We want YOUR interpretation, rather than an imitation of Dr. King.
All finalists chosen must be available to perform live at the DMK Black Box Theater (inside the Union Arts Center, 1980 Morris Ave.) on Monday, January 19.
