Mark's pastels will be on display at the Montague Center Library in December and January. Join us for a special reception to celebrate the artist!
Mark Mariani's biography: I have lived in Montague Center my whole life--a proud Montague Centaurian. I have enjoyed painting and drawing since I was four when I usually drew dinosaurs and big animals, making the growling and roaring sounds as I worked. My formal training came in art classes at Deerfield Academy, The Guild Studio School in Northampton, art classes at Middlebury College, and one fall term at The Parsons School of Design. My recent pastel work is inspired by the photography of Paul Franz, whose work you would recognize in The Greenfield Recorder. I pick out prints of his that I like and then recreate the images in pastel, sometimes changing certain elements of a composition. I have taught at Eaglebrook School for twenty-five years and have added pet and house portraiture to my interests list. Some of you in town may know me as "that guy that is always painting houses in Montague Center" when summer comes around.
