Strap on your butterfly wings and antennas and join us for a weekend of fun and learning as we celebrate the Monarch butterfly. Decorate a paper monarch with your hopes/wishes and add it to the “Follow the Monarch” traveling art exhibit by Okies for Monarchs, which will be on display in the Visitor Center. Purchase pollinator-friendly plants and learn more about the amazing migration of monarch butterflies with talks, a monarch tagging demo., games and activities for children, free face painting and more.
Ongoing, Saturday and Sunday:
- Okies for Monarchs will be here with information on how you can get involved in helping monarchs and more. On Sunday, Ric Kotarsky will share about monarch tagging and have nets and tagging kits for adults to participate after his talk.
- “Follow the Monarch” Exhibit by Okies for Monarchs. As seen around Oklahoma, “Follow the Monarchs” is a traveling art display featuring thousands of paper butterflies mimicking the monarch migration. It will be on display in the Garden’s Visitor Center. Visitors will have the opportunity to decorate paper monarchs and write their wish, hope or dream on it, then add it to the exhibit.
- Education Station on Monarchs inside Visitor Center
- Free Face painting
- Plant Sale: Pollinator-friendly plants will be available for sale 10 a.m.-4 p.m.
- Monarch Activity Tent with butterfly games and monarch and caterpillar photo stops.
- Xerces Society for Invertebrate Conservation information booth
- Tulsa Co. Master Gardeners information booth
- Find Monarch and pollinator-themed items in the Gift Shop.
- Wear your hiking shoes and explore the new trail in our Cross Timbers native prairie and forest as well as garden areas
- See FLORIGAMI IN THE GARDEN, an art exhibit of colorful, larger-than-life metal sculptures of flowers, deer, ponies and more, created by Santa Fe artists Jennifer and Kevin Box in collaboration with origami masters.

- 11 a.m. – Karen Watkins with Tulsa Co. Master Gardeners will speak on the “Do’s and Don’ts for Attracting Pollinators”
Sunday, Sept. 7
In celebration of Grandparents Day, all grandparents will get a gift in the Visitor Center on Sunday.
- 10 a.m. – Storytime with children’s author Jennifer Jarnagan Riem
- 11 a.m. – Ric Kotarsky, with Okies for Monarchs and Curator of Wildlife Conservation & Scientific Advancement, Tulsa Zoo will have demonstrate and discuss Monarch tagging. There will be nets and tagging kits available for adults to participate after talk. (first come, first serve)
- 12 p.m. – Karen Watkins with Tulsa Co. Master Gardeners will speak on the “Do’s and Don’ts for Attracting Pollinators”
All activities are included with regular admission. FREE for Garden members.
