ABOUT MDOU MOCTAR
Mdou Moctar is a groundbreaking Tuareg guitarist and songwriter from Agadez, Niger, who fuses traditional Saharan melodies with electrifying rock influences. His acclaimed album Afrique Victime blends raw guitar shredding, poetic lyrics, and political urgency, tackling themes of love, inequality, and colonial exploitation.
Inspired by Eddie Van Halen and forged through DIY world tours, Mdou’s music channels the spirit of his desert homeland and the energy of punk. Alongside his band—including longtime collaborator Ahmoudou Madassane, powerhouse drummer Souleymane Ibrahim, and producer/bassist Mikey Coltun—Moctar crafts a sound that’s both ferocious and deeply human.
From viral beginnings on mobile data cards to international acclaim, Mdou remains driven by a mission to uplift his community, support young musicians, and fight for justice through sound. Afrique Victime is both a protest and a prayer—music as resistance, resilience, and revelation.
