What do you see?
When you see a flower in bloom and feel a ping in your heart.
Is that feeling your own?
When you hear a new song that makes the hairs on your arms stand up and your heart swell does that feeling belong to the musicians?
I like to think not.
That feeling comes from a place deeper than possession.
It is simply from beyond us, both the hearer and the musicians. Bound together by chords that lay outside our conscious perception.
The same is true of art. Art (in my understanding of it) is not about the intent of the artist.
It is about what is inspired in the heart of the viewer. What grows from the waters that flow through the creative mind to those who partake and what takes shape as a result.
Many of these pieces were inspired by the wide spectrum of my experiences. Art, music, failure and triumph. Sadness and joy.
Though these perceptions are my own, what is birthed by them in my art is not.
It's yours to birth new things from the deep formless places in yourself.
That is the whole intent of this showing.
Tonight I ask you not to guess at my intentions or wonder what I wish to say with this work. Instead I ask you to use them as mirrors and see into yourselves.
Ask yourself what do I see?
