FRENCH 75 JAZZ PROJECT
The French 75 Jazz Project was formed by the happenstance meeting of two female jazz musicians (Bass Player Cat and Drummer Kathy) who discovered their shared passion and respect for the world of jazz. Together with the off the chart virtuosity of both Ken Barry on Sax and Flute and Daniel Woodruff on keyboards, a jazz collective was formed based on a mutual love and respectful intent to honor and elevate the women and men who created the broad and deep spectrum of jazz. Having lived and performed individually across the U.S., Africa and Europe, they each bring decades of experience from Jazz Standards, Be-Bop and Cool, to Progressive Rock, Pop and Fusion. The French 75, named after the WWII champagne cocktail, packs a powerful punch and arrives with the intent to share, educate and spread joy by breaking down barriers of age, race, language and genre through the universal art of Jazz.
Cat Ripley is a jazz vocalist and bassist with over 20 years of experience playing in various bands across the globe, ranging from progressive rock, jazz, fusion, reggae, punk, folk, and heavy metal. Cat now returns to her jazz roots with humble intent and passion as she honors legends of the broad spectrum of jazz from Be-Bop to Fusion.
Kathy Frank is the daughter of two jazz musicians. "Jazz and Bossa Nova were constantly playing in our house, my father toured with many notable Jazz musicians and my mother is a wonderful vocalist who was inspired by Billie Holiday to become a singer. Kathy enjoys playing and singing Blues, Hard Bop, Bossa and R&B. I started playing drums at age 30. I needed to pick up an instrument besides a few violin lessons at 11. I chose the drums. This new band is a dream come true, all great players with various musical backgrounds and diversity".
Daniel Woodruff is a masterful, multi-instrumentalist who started with the guitar in middle school. With a great ear and dedication, he excelled in music, learning bass guitar, drums, and keys. He's played in various bands in Tucson and Southern California. He enjoys many genres of music, Ambient Jazz, Rock and R&B. He's a colorful, dynamic player who listens closely and responds in the moment.
Kenneth Barry plays multiple woodwinds with multiple bands, and has been featured with the Jazzmantics, Tunesmith, The Sonoran Duo, Miss Stevie Woods, Glenn Gross and Friends and of course French 75! He has performed at the Century Room, Rialto Theater, and many other local venues. Ken brings influences from South Florida where he was raised and attended University of Miami, and Kansas City, where he played and recorded in the music scene professionally for 10 years. He has worked with several alumni of the Chet Baker band, and the Phil Woods bands in addition to taking private studies with sax legends Dave Liebman and Benny Golson.
