A benefit dinner and dance to help an amazing person and her family in a very difficult time battling cancer.

At 58 years old, my heart is full with pride as I reflect on 36 years of marriage to my high school sweetheart. We've been truly blessed, watching our six children grow and eventually gracing us with 25 grandchildren, and just this June, the arrival of our first great-grandchild.
I was healthy and working my full-time job when a discomfort – what I dismissed as a sore neck muscle – became something more: 'I feel something on my throat.' A series of urgent tests and referrals revealed a diagnosis: Anaplastic Thyroid Cancer, a very aggressive form. I have been blessed with a fast-acting and compassionate team of doctors. I've undergone surgery and am now working through recovery. Further testing and the journey of Radiation and Chemo will begin soon.
I am grateful for the medical benefits my job provides. However, these benefits do not shoulder the entirety of these immense expenses. And while I have my husband by my side, he, too, carries a heavy load, unable to work due to a fire accident 15 years ago that left him on medical disability.
