*This will be moved if the road has not improved by then*
This will be an evening training practice day. I will probably get there around 4pm.
If you are a total beginner and do not have your own gear, let me know and I will make sure to bring spare gear for you to use. If you already own gear, but do not know how to use it, bring it and we can go over that with you! (Wait to purchase any gear until you have talked it over with someone experienced in the grotto so you don't buy things twice)
In the past we have set up multiple rappel lines going down the waterfall, so you can practice rappelling and ascending on high angle, low angle, and wet, slippery rock. This area also has a nice bridge for train tracks that we have set fully vertical and totally free hanging lines off of to practice ascending and doing change overs. The bridge also has a bolted aid climbing route to practice that, and we can use those same bolts to set up mock rebelays and redirects. This area also has a decent number of small caves if you want to explore any of those.
Bad weather will probably cancel the event (only due to horrible participation rates in past training days with bad weather).
If you have something specific you would like to work on, let me know ahead of time and I can make sure that we work on it.
Topics we could go over:
Rappelling
Ascending
Aid Climbing
Anchor Building
J-Hangs
Tyrolean Traverses
Rebelays and Redirects Pull-Down Trip Techniques
Contingency Anchors (Set up anchor to quickly swap to a haul system or a lower system)
Partner Assist Techniques
Mechanical Advantage Systems
