Fun facts about Workroom Tech
Custom Workroom Technical Center, known as "Workroom Tech" is the only trade school in the United States with professional sewing classes for custom soft furnishings like draperies, slipcovers, pillows and cushions which are sold direct and to-the-trade though interior design companies.
People attend classes with the goal to starting a sewing business or to hone skills and learn specialties to grow an existing business.
Classes at Workroom tech bring about 75 student to Tryon each year, often with their families. With an average stay of 3 nights, our students support 225 room nights, meals in restaurants and visit Tryon shops and galleries.
People come from all over the United States to take classes and there are a few students every year from outside the US. Many Workroom Tech instructors live in other states and travel to Tryon to teach classes.
In addition to classes in Tryon, we offer online classes and regional 1-day programs in other cities.
Workroom Tech provides product testing, consulting, employee training and video production for companies in the interior design and sewing industries.
New for 2025, we now offer classes in Spanish at Workroom Tech and at a satellite classroom located in Austin, TX.
Our student enrollment manager Laurie Medford and her husband Tom recently moved here and we are delighted to have them nearby. Laurie also teaches classes.
