SWAT Team? In Miami County, Ohio?
We’ve seen SWAT (Special Weapons and Tactics) teams on television shows as law enforcement becomes aware that special personnel are necessary in high-risk
situations such as when hostages are being held or the bad guys are armed or there is the likelihood that they are terrorists.
On September 3, 2025, at 9 A.M. the Miami Valley Veterans Museum in Troy, Ohio will be hosting local 1st responders at our monthly veterans’ coffee. Miami County Sheriff Dave Duchek will be attending along with a commander of a Miami County SWAT team. They will also bring armored vehicles to demonstrate for attendees, explain who they are, their special training, what they do, and how they do it - without, of course, revealing their secret strategies!
Whether we admit it or not, there are a few bad guys in Miami County! According to
Sheriff Duchak’s assistant, SWAT teams are called out “several times annually; most often in cases of hostages and search warrants where the situation indicates that the situation is highly volatile.”
In addition to the SWAT team, Sheriff Duchak will be bringing a drone pilot who will take an aerial photograph of all the veterans and law enforcement that attend on that day. Veterans are asked to wear red, white, or blue shirts for the photograph.
Doors to the museum open at 8 a.m. and coffee and donuts served at 8:30 a.m.
