An opportunity for young people to write, learn and perform their own song at an interactive songwriting workshop.
Based around the theme of Halloween, the participants will explore various ideas and construct lyrics to their song. They will also learn about how minor and major chords can give different feelings and meanings within the music, as they write the music to accompany the lyrics.
Within the hour long session they will then learn the lyrics and melody, rehearse singing their song, and do one final performance to parents and guardians.
Parents and guardians are required to stay for this session. Please note tickets only need to be booked for children, not accompanying adults.
About the workshop facilitator, Jamie McDine:
Whether photographing a wedding, directing a promotional film or inspiring young people through creative workshops, I love bringing the best out in people and helping them to feel more confident. I discovered my passion for teaching 20 years ago, delivering a groundbreaking film project in Germany, and have continued to develop my creative talents and the subjects I specialise in; from stopframe animation to primary maths! My whole approach is being a kind, nurturing and fun mentor, that makes learning engaging and enjoyable.
I first picked up a guitar when Oasis were around the first time, and in this workshop I will be combining my love for music with my teaching skills: to help the participants write their own spooky song for Halloween. They will learn all about how music conveys a message, choose the chords and as a team they will write the lyrics! No experience is necessary, but costumes are highly recommended. We will finish the session, after a few practice runs, by performing their spooky song!
