The Viking Age was a dramatic era when people in Scandinavia traveled to many different places around the world. The Scandinavians plundered and ravaged but also went on peaceful travels where they traded and discovered new people and sites. They were likely both curious and in search of wealth.
The Scandinavians got hold of spectacular swords, silver, oriental pearls, church relics and slaves on their travels. They also built large networks and brought new ideas with them back home.
In our exhibition "Viking" we display a treasure trove of Viking artifacts. Several of them have never been shown to the public before. The exhibition and the guided tour give insight into a society imbued with warrior values and honor, where a good reputation was essential to your social standing, and the exchange of precious gifts was the glue in political alliances.
If you buy an entrance ticket to the museum you can also participate in the guided tour. Tickets can be purchased upon arrival or online.
