Yann Tiersen is an artist who defies categorization; while many associate him with the Amélie soundtrack, his music has long since moved beyond those roots. With a seamless blend of acoustic and electronic elements, he creates soundscapes that are emotional and transformative.
In April, he set sail from the island of Ouessant on France’s west coast aboard the sailboat Ninnog with a crew of five. He spent a month in Svalbard, and at the time of writing, the journey continues southward along the Norwegian coast, including a stop at Trevarefabrikken. He plays both large and small concerts—house shows, cultural centers, local pubs, fishing village docks, or rock clubs—aiming to highlight climate challenges, sustainability, and anti-capitalist touring. Anything can happen!
“Our tour is about more than music – it’s about rethinking the role of art in a world facing climate collapse. Norway, a country caught between oil exploitation and progressive ideals, offers the perfect backdrop for this exploration. From Arne Næss’ philosophy to the harsh realities in Svalbard, where climate change hits hardest, we’re inspired to push for radical action. This is not a traditional tour. We’ll perform in unconventional venues, sometimes for free, because we believe music shouldn’t be about profit. The capitalist norms of touring must go; instead, we focus on sustainability and connection. This is about proving that another way is possible—where creativity thrives without exploitation.”
