Learning to eat seasonally is important but who is ever ready to say goodbye to fresh tomatoes? Who sometimes needs a real "FAST FOOD" for a Monday night dinner when you're exhausted? Who wants to take their preservation game to the next level and get new inspiration for garden extending? I'm opening my homestead to 10 people for a hands on oudoor Beginners canning class, tastings included! If youve been nervous about starting to can, this is your jam! (and no Jam or other sugar filled malnourishment will be made in this class!) We are talking about real nutrient dense fuels without the cold storage or freezer space.
Let's discuss simple and age-old food storage & preservation techniques. Let's learn to extend the life of your favorite fruits & veggies, and even go beyond the basics to fill your pantry with your own edible creations and keep the bounty of each seasons harvest on your plate all year long!
Canning 1 - will be focused on Water Bath Canning Vegetables from salsa to pickles, chutneys, relishes & more. The many ways to preserve vegetables & fruit without added sugars. Lets discuss the many ways of preserving those tomatoes from fresh to sauces for canning but also tips on freezing, dehydrating, & even fermenting! Taste test your way through this 3 hour session & take home Jars we can in class!
Bad Baxter Farm will teach the basics of water bath canning with an emphasis on tomatoes, peppers & cucumbers. Tomatoes are a must in the preservation pantry due to all its uses from salsa to sauces. We will also discuss the many preservation techniques of tomatoes and other items that are safe to water bath can and why.
We will taste test the differences between traditional canned pickles & fermented dills as well as start a simple pickle or pepper ferment in class. Making your own condiments at home saves money but also gives you the ability to control ingredients for health. Lets discuss other simple condiments you can be making at home. taste test a few of my favorites & go home with the recipes & knowledge to implement a new skill in your own kitchen. Class participants will take home a ferment jar & canned jar that they create during this hands on class. all items included!

Bring your questions for preserving the harvest! Pleasse be advised that total class cost for day 1 is $125. The deposit will hold your spot & $75 is due upon arrival.
